'With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come.
And let my liver rather heat with wine,
than my heart cool with mortifying groans.'
- The Merchant of Venice, William Shakespeare
Perhaps the prettiest of weddings I had the privilege of photographing at the tail end of 2016 was so full of laughter. Amy and Mark had chosen the idyllic Rose Dew Farm in Llantwit Major as their wedding venue, and it was pretty, pretty, pretty!
When I first met Amy and Mark for a pre-wedding meeting in Cardiff, it struck me just how laidback a couple they were. So it was no surprise that their request for the day was relaxed and natural reportage style photography. The wedding day itself had everything from sunshine to showers, but mostly at the right moments so not to intervene in the carefully laid out order of the day. That the happy couple just happened to be the proprietors of the cutest cocktail bar in Cardiff, the delightful Dead Canary perhaps explains the spirited laughter and merriment of the day, with smiles brimming in whichever direction I would turn my lens to. There were so many stories! From the surprising arrival of a swanky helicopter and the groomsmen being intrigued by its shimmering silver splendour, the fun moments at the bridal preparation and Amy's infectious smile all the way through the afternoon, I don't think that I have ever had the pleasure of photographing a more fun-filled and happier wedding before.
Congratulations to the lovely couple once again. Wishing you much happiness and laughter for the rest of your lives. This is the story of Amy and Mark, and their beautiful wedding day as I captured it.
