St. Giles Trust is an amazingly worthwhile organisation. They work with ex-offenders, those blighted by homelessness, addiction and living through a cycle of violence. So when I had an email from Alex, who works within the Cardiff team to photograph the team as well as cover one of the client interviews, I was thrilled.
Here is a little more about exactly what the trust stands for in their own words:
'We believe that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement hold the key to positive change in others. Being helped by someone who has ‘been there’ is highly powerful and this peer-led approach underpins all our services.'
St Giles Trust aims to help break the cycle of prison, crime and disadvantage and create safer communities by supporting people to change their lives. Their services put reformed ex-offenders at the heart of the solution, training them to use skills and first-hand experience to help others through peer-led support. They work in custody, through the gate and into the community - finding solutions to support offenders break the cycle. This range of services help the 16,000 clients they work with each year overcome any barriers which might be holding them back from moving their lives forward in a positive way. They aim to provide flexible, tailor-made services which are driven by the needs presented by the people we are trying to help. Typically, this involves helping people with accommodation, accessing other services, improving skills and assisting people into their search for employment.
